And so it’s October – that happened quickly. On the home front, our officially official adoption paperwork has been issued and we’re now “matching”.
That seemed too fast didn’t it? It has in London – I feel like we went from a reasonable summer to the shortest autumn on record straight into the early days of winter.
And the living is…. if not easy, then at least a good time!
After bouncing around timezones, July has been a single time zone joy, spent learning, working and spending time with friends in the sunshine.
Once upon a time, a consultant in people analytics used to post on various social media platforms with the hashtag #glamorouslifeofaconsultant. Usually with reference to being up at 3am, heading to locations of dubious glamour and bereft of caffeine fit for human consumption.
As I headed into my usual writing time at the end of April/beginning of May I had a series of life moments that meant that my brain chemistry was almost entirely cortisol for a little while, and so I made some choices to keep myself out of overwhelm.
I remember thinking that after the first 6 months, a sort of business-as-usual pace would emerge, my to do list would become predictable, and the fitting in of work and life, and living a long distance from my partner and managing the time to be in the same place together long enough to keep speaking to each other would just… happen.
February is always a time of mixed emotions for me. I’m not a huge "birthday person", when it’s my own birthday anyway, but growing up in Australia, my birthday always coincided with fun things, like end of summer barbecues, the launch of the Ministry of Sound annual, the Sydney Mardi Gras, and family and friends generally being around to celebrate with.
When last we spoke, it was very early January, and I was coming to you live from a place of relaxed zen, having had a wonderful time out with family of the festive season. Suffice it to say that my zen lasted about a week, and 2024 then launched itself with gusto.
